Lady Gaga is the perfect mix of all-American girl, freak, and amazing performance artist. It is no wonder why so many girls and women are choosing to emulate this world-famous superstar on Halloween. Web sites are reporting that
Lady Gaga costumes are one of the most popular for 2010.
Lady Gaga
costumes are available both online and in local costume specialty stores. Whether you choose the 2009 VMA White Performance Lady Gaga, the American Flag Lady Gaga, or the Lady Gaga Blue Swimsuit (all available at
www.costumediscounters.com), there are cosmetic and hair details that you will need to complete the look.
Lady Gaga is now as famous for her outrageous wigs as
Dolly Parton once was, and there are a lot of Gaga-inspired looks to choose from. I have found that the widest selection of Lady Gaga wigs at
www.costumesforwomensexy.com, but the most recognizable, the crimped bob with bangs is available at
www.yandy.com. Remember that if you are going out dressed as Lady Gaga, dancing will most likely be part of your night, so make sure to pin the wig securely to your own hair to avoid any slippage.
No matter which costume look you choose, you are going to need a flawless complexion to mimic that of Lady Gaga. Apply a silicone based primer like Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer ($8 at
www.walmart.com) to your entire face, neck, and area of the chest that your costume will expose and allow at least five minutes for it to set. Apply a foundation like Cover Girl Clean Makeup in a shade that closely matches your own natural skin tone. Emphasize your cheekbones and cleavage with a mineral bronzer like Mineral Elements by Eden Cosmetics Warmth Powder and blend well. Next apply a light dusting of perfecting powder to face, neck, and chest. For Lady Gaga's smooth looking complexion, I prefer Cover Girl Professional Loose Powder.
Even if you are planning on wearing a Lady Gaga inspired mask to compliment your costume, eye makeup is especially important to get her famous look. The primary focal point of Lady Gaga's eyes are her lashes. She achieves these larger and fuller than life looks with false eyelashes. Pick your favorite style, and apply them as closely to your natural lashes as possible before doing the rest of your eye makeup. Once the lash adhesive is set, take a page from Lady Gaga's book and apply your eye makeup to compliment your costume of choice. Don't leave out the metallic shadows and make sure to add plenty of sparkle.
You may choose to claim the "Poker Face" look as your own, or a black lightning bolt over one eye instead of wearing a mask. Standard eye pencils in black, white, and red can be used to create these Lady Gaga inspired looks.
From time to time, Lady Gaga has been spotted sporting a red pout, but this is not my favorite look for her, (as well as being difficult to achieve and keep in place for costume purposes). Apply a nude shade of lipstick and gloss to finish off your Lady Gaga Halloween costume, and you are ready to rock.
